The Sophia Electric Magic Box is an exceptional device that brings „valve magic” to a system without using valves, transistors or a power supply. It is a fully passive pre-preamplifier (pre-pre) with 6 dB of gain, based on two hand-wound transformers made of exotic wire, enclosed in aluminium housings on a CNC-machined base.
The Magic Box amplifies the signal before it reaches the volume potentiometer of a preamplifier or receiver — improving microdynamics, clarity and sound quality without introducing noise or distortion. It can be placed at various points in the chain: between source and preamplifier, or between preamplifier and power amplifier. Reversing the connections gives 6 dB of attenuation.
The result? The natural warmth and fluidity of valves, more air and space between instruments, cleaner timbres and a more three-dimensional soundstage — in solid-state systems, but valve systems too. An unassuming addition that can transform the sound.

A passive pre-preamplifier (pre-pre) built on transformers — it brings the warmth, space and microdynamics of valves to a system, with no valves or power supply. An unassuming addition with a big effect.
