The Passive Remote is Icon Audio’s passive line preamplifier in a remote-control version — for listeners who want more inputs, convenient volume control and control from the armchair, while retaining the direct, honest sound with no noise or colouration typical of active preamplifiers.
Remote volume control is handled by a high-quality, motorised ALPS Blue potentiometer, powered from a small mains adapter. With no active gain stages, the signal remains as untouched as possible — with no self-noise and no distortion introduced by electronics.
The whole is hand-assembled, point-to-point, with no printed circuit boards, in a solid chassis of anodised aluminium and steel (matt black). Silver-plated PTFE wiring, gold-plated sockets, 4 line inputs + Tape In with record monitor, and a stereo/mono switch. It works best with power amplifiers of 1 V sensitivity or higher.
