The Icon Audio Stereo 30SE is an integrated valve amplifier operating in pure Class A, single-ended configuration. It combines a warm, smooth and richly saturated tone with a level of power that was, until recently, out of reach for affordable SE designs — thanks to modern KT150 output valves and output transformers designed and hand-wound at the Icon Audio workshop.
At the heart of the amplifier are two KT150 valves (KT120 operation is also possible), driven by three 6SN7 double triodes in a cascode configuration. This topology preserves all the virtues of single-ended sound — tangibility, fluidity and natural timbre — while eliminating the typical drawbacks of the approach: loose bass, noise and a lack of power.
The Stereo 30SE lets you choose its character of operation: triode mode (18 W per channel) for the purest, most ethereal sound, or ultra-linear mode (28 W per channel) with greater dynamic headroom. In most rooms, and with loudspeakers of 90 dB sensitivity or higher, the 18 W of triode mode is more than sufficient.
The whole unit is assembled by hand, point-to-point, using audiophile-grade capacitors (Mundorf optional), silver-plated signal wiring in PTFE insulation, and gold-plated input and speaker terminals. The power supply is regulated by a large, custom-wound choke. A built-in „easy bias” meter allows simple monitoring of the output valves’ optimal operation and indicates the available output-power headroom.
