The Stereo 40 MkIII is one of the most acclaimed versions of Icon Audio’s cult integrated valve amplifier. Operating in a Class A push-pull configuration on KT88 valves, it offers 33 W per channel with the warm, dense and musical sound the brand is famous for.
The input stage is based on 6SL7 and 6SN7 valves, with a 274B valve rectifier — for the smoothest, most analogue character. At the heart of the design are output transformers hand-wound in Japan with an additional (tertiary) winding, made of 99.9999%-pure copper, and a choke-regulated power supply with eight capacitors in a „Pi” configuration.
The whole unit is hand-assembled, point-to-point, for the shortest signal path, with a Japanese ALPS Blue potentiometer, metal-film resistors and audiophile SCR and Solen capacitors. It is an amplifier for listeners who value classic, top-quality valve sound.
