The Stereo 40 MkIV in the 6L6 version is a variant of the acclaimed Icon Audio integrated amplifier — built on the same refined MkIV platform, but voiced for the gentler, sweeter character of 6L6 valves. It is aimed at listeners who prefer the delicacy of the midrange and natural timbre over raw power.
The design retains all the strengths of the Stereo 40 MkIV: a fully triode driver stage in a cascode arrangement (6SN7), switchable ultra-linear/triode mode, a power supply regulated by a large choke, and output transformers with an additional (tertiary) winding. Depending on preference, 6L6 or related valves (including EL34, KT66) can be used, experimenting with the sound.
The whole unit is hand-assembled, point-to-point, with no printed circuit boards, using high-quality components, an „easy bias” meter, a recording loop, a headphone output and a remote control — just like the other Stereo 40 MkIV versions.
